All local residents, businesses, and visitors in the Strand area are advised that the second phase of the Strand Seawall project is currently underway, with construction expanding eastward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An updated traffic management plan will take effect from Monday 9 February to accommodate these works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with plans to open some western sections by June, pending favorable progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic changes to be expected <\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The following traffic management measures will apply to Strand Beach Road between Van Ryneveld Road and the R44 at the Greenways intersection:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One-way northbound traffic:<\/strong><\/em> Beach Road will temporarily allow only north-flowing traffic (toward Cape Town) between the Hofmeyer Road\/Beach Road intersection and the Beach Road\/Van Ryneveld Road intersection;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southbound vehicle detour:<\/strong><\/em> Vehicles traveling south (toward Gordon’s Bay) on Beach Road must turn left at Van Ryneveld Road, then access the southern end of Beach Road via Hofmeyer Street or Gordon’s Bay Drive;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northbound traffic: <\/strong><\/em>Vehicles traveling north on Beach Road will continue alongside the construction works;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southern area access: <\/strong><\/em>Vehicles can exit the southern Beach Road area via Haarlem Street;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lane closure:<\/strong><\/em> One southbound lane on Beach Road will be closed from Haarlem Street (opposite Greenways entrance) to Van Ryneveld Street; and <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local roads: <\/strong><\/em>All other internal roads in the area remain unaffected, maintaining current traffic flow for residents.

Temporary road closures<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Beach Road will be temporarily closed during construction material deliveries and crane operations. Clear signage will direct traffic to the Haarlem Street intersection during these periods, with flagging personnel positioned to guide vehicles and redirect pedestrians to safe walkways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City will implement comprehensive safety measures including:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Clear signage, traffic cones, barricades, and delineators;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Safety netting on the beach-side construction area; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • Designated pedestrian beach access points where applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        “Our team is implementing this updated traffic management plan to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow,” said Eddie Andrews, Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
