In a dramatic and spirited final home game of the season, Sir Lowrians RFC celebrated with a unique display of community and pride on Saturday 6 September, securing a crucial 21-7 victory over Elsies River RFC to keep their Promotion League play-off dreams alive.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day’s festivities began with a spectacular sight as bikers from across Cape Town, who also do charity work in Sir Lowry’s Pass, formed a guard of honour for the players running onto the field. The atmosphere was electric, but the home team was immediately put on the back foot.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elsies came out firing, scoring a converted try just 10 minutes into the game to the lead (0-7). \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir Lowrians, however, responded with determination. Captain Ayanda Makhundayi scored a try and Randy Brinkhuis slotted the conversion to level the scores (half-time: 7-7). \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second half saw the home team take control. Adrian van Wyk scored their second try, and Brinkhuis added the conversion, giving the hosts a 14-7 lead with 30 minutes left to play. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir Low didn’t let up, as Malcolm van Wyk swiftly scored another try, with Brinkhuis once again adding the extras. This brought the final score to 21-7, a decisive victory that fuels the local team’s play-off aspirations as the win propels them to fourth on the log.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club extended its gratitude to its supporters and partners, including Vetus Schola Security for providing security on game day and the Village Collaboration Centre, which arranged for new sports equipment through Rhino Sports. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sir Low will now head into their final game against Raithby Universals, knowing that a win is essential to secure a spot in the play-offs and continue their quest for glory.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Watsonia were crowned Promotion League champions with a 33-10 victory over Raithby, who are currently in second place on the standings ahead of this weekend’s clash.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Pool B of the Challenger Cup, Gordon’s Bay Pioneers closed off their season with a 13-19 loss to Retreat, failing to qualify for a play-off spot.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following their loss to Violets the previous week, Strand United are officially relegated to the Northern League next season.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All Saints take on Gardens in the Super League C semi-finals at City Park in Athlone on Saturday (13 September).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
