{"id":267430,"date":"2025-08-06T09:05:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T07:05:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/districtmailhelderberg\/?p=267430"},"modified":"2025-08-06T09:05:50","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T07:05:50","slug":"uniting-to-protect-helderberg-mpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/districtmailhelderberg\/uniting-to-protect-helderberg-mpa\/","title":{"rendered":"Uniting to protect Helderberg MPA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The City of Cape Town&#8217;s Environmental Management Department participated in this year&#8217;s World Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Day celebrations, at the Helderberg MPA this past Saturday (2 August). \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event centred on the theme &#8220;Ocean protection needs human connection&#8221; and included a guided biodiversity and photography walk followed by a community beach clean-up.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eddie Andrews, deputy mayor and Mayoral Committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment, highlighted the critical role of these protected areas. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The City has several MPAs along Cape Town&#8217;s highly sensitive and dynamic coastline.
