The Victoria Park Neighbourhood Watch (VPNHW) hosted a memorable Youth Day celebration on Monday 16 June, where children, parents and neighbouring communities came together in the spirit of unity, safety and fun. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day was filled with energetic activities, vital safety education and heartfelt community engagement despite intermittent winter showers.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main event was spearheaded by VPNHW deputy chairperson Kevin Perrins, whose tireless efforts, along with the organising team, helped secure valuable sponsors and put together a well-structured day for the youth. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victoria Park, known for its active and dedicated neighbourhood watch, once again proved its commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Youngsters were treated to an array of exciting activities. The City of Cape Town’s Bingo initiative teamed up with children for friendly soccer games, adding laughter and camaraderie to the mix. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A highlight of the day was the five-a-side soccer tournament, where children competed in spirited knockout matches. Medals were awarded to the first, second, and third-place teams, adding a competitive edge.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Children were taken on rides around the park in Vetus Schola’s massive, bullet-proof tactical operations vehicle \u2013 the Nyala, drawing awe and admiration from the young participants. Neighbouring suburbs also joined in the fun, making the event a truly inclusive occasion.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Adding to the adventure, children lined up to test their aim in a Nerf gun “shoot the target” game, while others braved the Fear Factor box challenge, sticking their hands into hidden compartments. The ever-popular tug-of-war saw both young and old, including VPNHW members, battle it out in a spirited show of strength and teamwork.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event also incorporated the monthly VPNHW Kids Training programme, launched earlier this year. It aims to educate children on different topics and this month’s focus was on respecting and preserving the local park through learning the park’s rules in a fun, engaging manner. By merging training with entertainment, the event reinforced valuable life skills in a relaxed setting.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Safety education was a cornerstone of the day, with representatives from the City’s Fire and Rescue team and ADT Fire Services demonstrating how fire equipment, including the “jaws of life”, works. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Children were captivated by the large fire engine and walked away with a deeper understanding of fire awareness.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No Youth Day celebration would be complete without delicious treats, sponsored by Bay Guard Security. Hotdogs and juice were provided to all the children, security partners, and City officials, while the little ones left with party packs in hand and smiles on their faces.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presence of security partners \u2013 ADT, Bay Guard, Vetus Schola, and Secure Rite Security \u2013 underscored the importance of community safety. Their participation helped reinforce strong relationships between residents and local safety stakeholders. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
VPNHW extends a heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors and partners who made the event possible, including the City’s support made possible through Rhelton Jooste.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Victoria Park continues to shine as a model of community-driven development, a place where children can grow, play, and learn in safety. As the rain cleared and laughter echoed through the park, it was clear that this Youth Day was more than a celebration; it was a testament to what can be achieved when a community works together.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
