Sadly, dealing with the loss of a beloved family member or friend is a journey we all face at some point in our lives. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To support the healing process, Helderberg Hospice established a Garden of Remembrance at Hospice House in Somerset West in 2016. This serene and welcoming space offers all members of the Helderberg community a safe place to reflect, honour and celebrate the lives of those dear to us.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Garden of Remembrance was initially created through the generous support of NCC Environmental Services (Pty) Ltd, Tyris Construction, Amandla Construction and ECHO, who chose it as their Mandela Day project in 2016. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These community-based businesses and organisations donated the ground preparation and landscaping, irrigation and installation of a paved pathway to ensure accessibility for those using wheelchairs and mobility aids.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The garden has been designed to be as water-wise as possible. Dedicated volunteers nurture and care for our gardens, and their expertise and experience make certain the plants selected for the garden are indigenous and require minimal to no watering once established.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This special garden is open to all in the Helderberg who wish to honour the memory of those no longer with them, not only for those who have received the care of Helderberg Hospice. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As this is a garden to benefit the whole community, Helderberg Hospice invites all in the Helderberg Basin to consider various ways in which to get involved. It could be to sponsor a bench with arm rests (made from recycled plastic by our preferred supplier) in remembrance of a loved one, or to donate a tree, plant or shrub from our recommended list (available on request), which is a beautiful, living way to remember someone special. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The newly created labyrinth needs completing and donations towards this meditative space would be gratefully received.
