To help youths squeeze every last drop of sunshine from the holidays, the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department has amended the municipal swimming pool hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Monday 31 March, these community swimming pools will open daily, from 10:00 to 18:00 (with the last ticket sold at 17:30), until the end of the season. Beach lifeguards are also on duty at local beaches including Strand (pictured) between 10:00 and 18:00 daily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For safe swimming, always choose lifeguard-patrolled beaches, supervise children closely, avoid swimming under the influence of alcohol, and be aware of rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and signal for assistance. Some beaches have a reduced drowning prevention service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We encourage residents, especially learners, to make use of the City\u2019s recreational facilities during the school holidays,” said Francine Higham, Mayoral Committee member for Community Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It\u2019s important for parents and guardians to always know the whereabouts of children and ensure that they are closely supervised, particularly around water bodies.
