Stellenbosch will again be host to the Savanna Origin of Trails event, which is set to be held in November.
Fondly referred to as the “MTB party of the year”, this year’s edition will offer a host of exhilarating additional offerings, including live performances by a well-known SA comedian, exciting sponsor competitions, an exclusive Pub Ride through Stellenbosch, the option to stay in the First Ascent Tented Village, a Best Dressed Competition, an event party for riders on Saturday evening, and more.
The event is set to be held on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November.
It comprises an individual two-day MTB stage race, with routes highlighting the beauty and splendour of Stellenbosch. Mountain bikers will tackle a vast network of world-class and exclusive trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.
The Savanna Origin of Trails event will again support the Stellenbosch Trail Fund, while entrants will again be encouraged to participate in the dress up competition on the second day of riding.
The race starts and finishes at Coetzenburg, with riders taking off at 08:00 on both days. Participants aged 18 and older have the choice of two distances – full marathon and half-marathon.
In the full-marathon event, riders will take on 45 km on day 1 and 48 km on day 2 for the entry fee of R1 600. Riders taking on the half-marathon will tackle routes of 29 km and 31 km on event days at a cost of R1 400.
Participants can also consider the Party Pack Entry, which includes tented accommodation, weekend meals and drinks, an exclusive Pub Ride through Stellenbosch, and access to the MTB Party of the Year function on Saturday evening at R1 395 for two nights.
The entry fees include two pre-event warm-up rides, an exclusive First Ascent rider jersey if you enter and pay by Monday 31 October, a finisher tee and medal, free massages, access to the routes, an en-route experience, a light breakfast and coffee as well as lunch on both days, complimentary drinks and refreshments, well-stocked water points, live entertainment, access to a chill area and the Savanna Oasis Bar, complimentary Savanna Bike Park & Wash, access to hot showers, an impressive selection of gifts from sponsors and fun sponsor competitions and giveaways.
Entries for the event open tomorrow (Friday 5 August) and close on Tuesday 15 November, or once full capacity has been reached.
