“It feels so good to be recognised by the people I work with on a daily basis. It shows that they value my work,” said Ward 86 councillor Xolani Diniso from Lwandle. Diniso was among 26 winners honoured at the Look At God Music Academy (Lagma) Awards 2026, held at Strand Town Hall on Saturday 28 March.

Diniso received an award for his efforts in the development of Ward 86. He said it is everyone’s dream to be recognised for the work they do in their community.
“It came as a surprise to me. I didn’t expect it. I’ve been serving my community for almost five years. I act as a link between the community and the City. Receiving this award shows that there is something I am doing right,” said Diniso, adding that his work is done in collaboration with other community stakeholders.
Challenges facing ward 86
He identified housing backlogs and unemployment as the main challenges in his ward. He also believes there is a strong link between unemployment and crime.
“There is still a lot that needs to be done here. The majority of young people are unemployed. Some are sitting at home with degrees, which can lead to frustration and, in some cases, substance abuse,” he explained.
Future Plans: Will Xolani Diniso stand for re-election?
When asked whether he would stand for a second term as councillor, Diniso said the decision lies with the community.
“I cannot nominate myself. If community members want me to stand again, who am I to refuse? I am a servant of the people and I follow the will of the community,” he said with a laugh.
