At least 22 shacks were destroyed by the fire and more than 60 people left homeless at D section on New Year\u2019s day. (\u201cVictims want houses\u201d, City Vision<\/span>,13 January). The cause of the fire is still unknown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Although the organisation\u2019s details were kept under wraps, community leaders and victims were thrilled by the gesture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Community leader Buzwe Kali said they are happy with the contribution and they believe it will make a difference to many families. He challenged other local businesses to come on board. \u201cWe wish we can get building material to rebuild our shacks because most of the people don\u2019t have money to buy it. But we are pleased with groceries as some of us didn\u2019t have,\u201d said Kali. <\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the beneficiaries, Nokwakha Plaatjies, thanked the donors for the \u201cgreat initiative\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI lost everything during the fire, including my identity document. I\u2019m struggling to rebuild my three room shack because I\u2019m unemployed. Currently I\u2019m sleeping at my friend\u2019s shack at the C section in the area,\u201d said Plaatjies, adding that she doesn\u2019t know how she will rebuild her shack.
