Simanyene Secondary School in Nomzamo is proud after one of its learners received seven distinctions in his National Senior Certificate (NSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ayabonga Mbobo (18) from Zola scooped over 80% in all her subject, something she attributed to \u201chard work and dedication\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mbobo received 99% in Life Science, 96% Physical Science, 89% in both English and Geography, 85% Mathematics, 84% IsiXhosa and 83% for Life Orientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The soft spoken, Mbobo has been accepted by the University of Cape Town (UCT) to do Bio Chemistry, but says her dream is to become a doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mbobo told City Vision <\/span>she was \u201chappy\u201d with her results as this has been something she set her goals since arriving at the school in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThese are the fruits of my hard work, dedication and self belief. When I arrived at the school this is exactly what I had told myself I will achieve, and it is quite pleasing to finally achieve it,\u201d she said with a smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mbobo said Covid-19, loadshedding and lockdown were some of the challenges she had to deal with. She believes the extra classes and winter school played a huge role in helping her achieve the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf you know and set yourself goals, there\u2019s nothing that will stop you from achieving them. My drive started way back when I arrived at the school, and this is exactly what I had set my mind into,\u201d said Mbobo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Her proud mother, Nopolo Mbobo (40) said they were proud of her achievement. She said they went through some hard times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen I heard she heard passed in this way I had a lot of mixed emotions. I thank God for trusting me with her,\u201d said Mbobo, who also thanked her church, Fountain of Faith for their support and moulding of her child. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A proud Lindelwa Gqiba, Life Science teacher, said she expected this from Mbobo as she had been a dedicated learner throughout. \u201cI am overwhelmed because we have worked very hard together. This is the first time I have a learner that achieved 99%,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cI want her to continue working hard, being disciplined and see her shining bright into the future.
