Excitement was evident on the faces of the learners at Vukani Primary School in Lower Crossroads when they received new school shoes on Thursday 10 February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least 26 pairs were donated by Fundisa Khulisa Youth Hubs to the school. The KTC based non profit organisation (NPO) helps learners from disadvantaged communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zuko Mndayi, the NPO chair, said their focus are children at adolescence stage. He said their mission is to build a solid foundation for holistic growth of the children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe formed the organisation in September last year. This is our first project that we called \u2018School Shoes Donation Drive\u2019. We started at Stormont Madubela primary, in KTC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe donated at least 10 pairs of shoes on Thursday 20 January. This is our second event at Vukani primary where we donated 26 pairs of new school shoes,\u201d said Mndayi, adding that they are mostly targeting no fee schools. He stated that they have a lot of programmes in the pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
School principal Zamuxolo Langa expressed his gratitude to the organisation. He said the shoes will make a huge difference to the learners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said most of their learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds and it\u2019s difficult for the parents to provide everything needed at the school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSome of the learners were wearing broken shoes and others were wearing flip- flops at school. So, we believe the new shoes will bring back their self-esteem and encourage them to come to school,\u201d said Langa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
