A staggering R7 million road facelift is currently underway in Lwandle, Nomzamo and Asanda Village as part of the City of Cape Town\u2019s roads rehabilitation initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City announced it is investing nearly R7 million in the second phase of this road rehabilitation project to ensure that residential roads are rehabilitated to quality and safe roads for all road users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is planned for completion in the middle of May, if all goes as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Asanda Village roads that would be affected include Mgidlana Street, Zulu Drive, Kaleni and Kulu streets, while in Nomzamo it would be Tyawe, Lonja, Simon and Milton streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Road works in Lwandle will take place in Vulindlela and Koyini streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility, said they received positive responses from the communities who benefited from the first phase of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He thanked the residents for their cooperation \u201cwith the teams on the ground\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe City\u2019s Roads Infrastructure Management department is satisfied with the good quality of work done on the project thus far and will ensure that this is carried through to the second phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have confidence that the community will cooperate with the contractor again and ask that residents please ensure that their motor vehicles and those of their visitors are not parked in the roadway as this could cause delays,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Road users are urged to be cautious while work is under way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congestion is expected, and commuters are advised to please consider alternative routes as far as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A motorist, Mandla Meyi, said finally vehicles will be able to move with ease in the area after years of poor roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is quite pleasing to see this road work in our area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe roads in this area were in a poor state. I just hope they do quality work that can also be maintained going forwards,\u201d said Meyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
