The Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) is appealing to e-hailing drivers to be vigilant while driving around the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The warning comes after a failed hijacking of an e-hailing driver at Emms Drive on Saturday 9 April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attempted hijacking was carried out by bogus passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe said the hijacking of e-hailing drivers has become a norm in the Nyanga precinct. \u201cWe\u2019ve been warning the drivers about this. We even informed them to first go to the police station if they receive a request from Nyanga. The police van will escort them but they don\u2019t do that,\u201d said Qwebe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called on drivers to put their lives first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou live once. Drivers must stop prioritising business more than their lives. The police are trying by all means to protect the community, but at the same time as the community we need to work with the police,\u201d said Qwebe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He identified Emms Drive and Brown\u2019s Farm as some of the hotspots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Western Cape police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident. He said members of Operation Lockdown II deployed in the Nyanga area foiled a hijacking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said three males tried to hijack an e-hailing driver after calling him for transport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
