Scores of members of the African National Congress Youth League in Samora Machel (ward 33) spent their Worker\u2019s Day on Sunday 1 May by cleaning illegal dumping sites in the ward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They started their cleaning campaign at the corner of Dr Oliver Tambo and Leonard Radu roads and moved to the corners of Dr Oliver Tambo and Chris Hani Crescent and Bathandwa Mdingi Crescent and Coline Williams Street. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward 33 ANCYL convenor, Nomonde Hadebe described the campaign as part of promoting a clean living area and environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said they are also trying to motivate the youth to take initiative in their communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe chose to do this campaign on Worker\u2019s Day to dismiss the notion that young people are lazy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlso we want our organisation to be visible and encourage other young people to stand tall on whatever they are doing,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward 33 councillor Lungisa Somdaka who was also part of the campaign described it as a great initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He gave the initiative his full support and says he wishes that there could be many more initiatives to come. Somdaka urged residents to take care of their community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople must resist dumping rubbish everywhere as it is polluting the community. The illegal dumping has a negative impact on the people\u2019s lives as it creates a lot of diseases,\u201d he stated, adding that it is everybody\u2019s business to clean where he or she stays. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
