It was sports galore at Lwandle Sports Grounds on Thursday 16 June, when local primary schools battled it out to be crowned champions in netball and soccer afterwards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was a hive of activity with soccer and netball skills on display by learners from Lwandle and Nomzamo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six primary schools took part on the one-day tournament while four high schools from these areas also competed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lulama \u201cJerry\u201d Bobi, Ward 86 committee member representing sport, said the tournament was a great \u201csuccess\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had more than 2 000 spectators on the day and mostly it was children,\u201d he said. \u201cOur plan is to see this tournament taking place for the next five years while the current councillor is still in office.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi explained the tournament was for community development and reviving sport in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christmas Tinto principal Mphicothi Qantolo, speaking on behalf of Lwandle, Nomzamo and Asanda schools, thanked Ward 86 councillor Xolani Diniso for the sporting extravaganza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is a rare sight to see teachers, children, parents and community leaders in one place,\u201d he said. \u201cI am sure most of the learners there felt special playing before a full-capacity stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe cannot dream of producing future superstars if there\u2019s no school sport at grassroots level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe future of these children won\u2019t build itself and I salute you for this great initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qantolo said the school community really appreciates what Diniso and his team did this past weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur children were all smiles and your commitment and passion for this community is amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cYour passion for including both the young and old is commendable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also congratulated all the winners and acknowledge the great work done by those school teachers . <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The principal said the schools were also looking forward to a great collaboration between Diniso\u2019s office and schools in developing the black child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mnqophiso Primary School won first prize in girls\u2019 netball and soccer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
