Ward 97 councillor Mthwalo Mkhutswana has called on residents to identify the \u201cproblematic boys\u201d that attacked one learner on Friday 19 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The boy, whose identity has been withheld, ended up in hospital with serious injuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Harare police, there was a fight between a group of boys from Harry Gwala and Sizimisele high schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, police spokesperson Capt Siyabulela Vukubi said the boys are not learners from either school, but they caused chaos by fighting with the learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a results one male student was allegedly stabbed by these boys who are not learners and has been admitted in hospital. There is no case opened as yet but police are monitoring the situation and trying to establish the reason for this fight among them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Mkhutswana called on the neighbourhood watch to be visible in the area to ensure the safety of learners on their way to and from school. He appealed for the \u201cnaughty boys\u201d to be identified and arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mkhutswana said he visited Sizimisele where the incident occurred. \u201cWhen I visited the school, the principal told me the incident occurred outside the school premises. We need neighbourhood watch, the community working together to monitor the area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Director of Communication Western Cape Education Department Bronagh Hammond, said there was an incident in the community \u2013 which is not school related and is allegedly to do with an ongoing conflict within the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA fight broke out on Friday morning, allegedly on route to school, and a learner from the school was attacked,\u201d she said. Hearing of the incident, school staff rushed to the scene to assist the learner and to take him to a healthcare facility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
