Injongo Primary School is on its way to defend their tittle after being crowned provincial champions in the Water and Sanitation competition held in Worcester on Saturday 27 August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school won two categories traditional music and dance and poetry and will strive to defend the title during a national contest in Johannesburg next month (October). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school won the title in 2019, but could not defend it for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent national lockdown.The competition is run annually with schools from different provinces competing against one another before all winners meet for the ultimate champion nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year saw five categories ranging from traditional music and dance, poetry, drama, imbongi and vitual art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The topic was about the importance of water and how effective we need to be to use water both at school and in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pamela Mtati, a teacher at the school, attributed their triumph to the learners \u201cdedication\u201d as they had not enough time to practise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think we had about a month and a half to prepare for this competition which we felt was not enough. But the dedication from teachers and learners ensured that we become winners at the end of the day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe did not want to spoon feed our learners, so we allowed them to do their research so that they can know what they are talking about. To be winners on both categories of traditional music and dance and poetry makes all of us very excited,\u201d said Mtati. She said they were happy for their learners whom were rewarded for their \u201chard work\u201d as they only had to guide and empower them as teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mtati said they were honoured and were looking forward in defending their title in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She thanked fellow teacher, Nobesuthu Sithela who dealt with poetry while shefocused on traditional music and dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mtati also thanked School Management team (SMT), Scgool Governing Body (SGB), teachers and parents for their support and borrowing them their children even after hours. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
