A man and his girlfriend died in a shack fire at Kosovo informal settlement on Sunday 11 September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least three other shacks were damaged during the incident. The cause of the incident is still unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the neighbours, who described himself as Mbatane, said the incident started at about 04:30 on Sunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that the pair looked after the shack while the tenant was in the Eastern Cape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe person who stays in the shack is renting it. The shack owner is staying in Langa,\u201d said Mbatane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the tenant left on Saturday 10 September for the Eastern Cape and asked the deceased man to look after the shack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that the female deceased was a visitor. \u201cUnfortunately they both died in the shack fire. They burned beyond recognition. The family of the deceased woman recognised her weave which was left intact,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The City\u2019s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse confirmed the incident. He said an emergency call was received at approximately 05:00, on Sunday 11 September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCrews from Gugulethu, Mitchell\u2019s Plain and Epping were on scene. Several informal structures were destroyed and seven persons were displaced. The bodies of a man and woman were discovered among the debris.
