Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum hosted its annual Ubuntu awards dedicated to \u201coutstanding\u201d residents or groups in the community on Friday 4 November at the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards saw a range of people from sports and community development to art being awarded for their roles in the area of Lwandle and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards also honoured a person who took pride in his\/her community. Someone who spends time without expecting remuneration to assist those who are less fortunate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The person should also be someone who strives for community upliftment, and development: overall, is a formidable champion of Ubuntu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those shortlisted were nominated by the residents of Lwandle, Nomzamo and Zola in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the winners Tshaki Madolwana, chair of Helderberg Rovers, was awarded for his outstanding and excellent job in the community of Lwandle, not only in football but even to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the team helped out in the community by distributing food parcels and money to those in dire need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am proud to stand here today and look back at what we have done for this community of Lwandle. At the time we were helping out, we did not know even if someone was taking note of our contribution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo us, all that was important was to assist where we could with whatever resources were available to us at the time. We are grateful to be recognised for the good positive role we play and continue to play in this community,\u201d said Madolwana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thandisile Fatyela, from Intsika Yethu Foundation, sent a word of gratitude to the museum for recognising them for the work they do for the development of their community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuch recognition is very encouraging because we did not expect it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur intention was to work to help develop this community and assist learners to grow up to be better individuals,\u201d said Fatyela, adding the awards have encouraged them to do even \u201cbetter for this community\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Winners of the Ubuntu awards were Bulelani Ndabeni, Intsika Yethu Foundation and Heldeberg Rovers FC while special awards went to Nomonde Kondile, Masikhule, Masincedane, Social workers, Victoria
