While life has returned to normal for South Africans, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are still visible and being felt by many. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To mitigate the suffering, Worshipers of Christ Ministries donated groceries to 30 families in the area of Asanda Village, Nomzamo, through its giving back programme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The annual initiative has been running for the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony was held at the church on Sunday 27 November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While worshippers were fed through the word of God, Bishop Xolani Bomvana ensured their bellies were also filled. The food hampers contained a bag of potatoes and 12,5 kg maize meal among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five church members and two people from outside the church benefited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven street committee members and other people identified by the committees also scored. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDuring the Covid-19 period, which was hard on our people, we also distributed food parcels which only lasted for a few days. So, this time around we decided to accommodate a small number, but give out a proper grocery hamper that can last about three weeks or so,\u201d said the man of the cloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bomvana said he was \u201cscared\u201d to see people going hungry as church mainly fed the spirit. \u201cIt is painful to note that your congregants worship at your ministry but after they don\u2019t know which door to knock on to get something to eat. So, it is important that I share what God has given to me with His people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bomvana said he understands the value of giving and his ministry also understands it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the recipients Nontombi Kamte said she was happy with the groceries which will go a long way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you are unemployed, it is very difficult to buy proper food as it is very expensive. With these groceries, I will not worry much with my family of three, whom we depend mainly on the government grant,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
