Iviwe Mhaga (18) is en route to achieving her dream of helping people after she was accepted at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) to do nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The soft-spoken Iviwe from Zola, in Lwandle, scooped four distinctions with 81% in both IsiXhosa and English, while in Life Orientation (LO) she obtained 82% and 84% in Life Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iviwe said support from her parents and teachers at Nomzamo High School was the catalyst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The school achieved an 80,1% pass rate for the 2022 NSC exams, netting 79 Bachelor passes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t doing as well throughout the year as I wanted to because of the high load of work. The pressure was also immense and at times I just felt not interested at all,\u201d she said.\u201cBut, then again I decided to dust myself off and try once more. In the end my efforts were not in vain. I feel proud of my achievements\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iviwe said her parents were also \u201cproud and happy\u201d for her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am now on the path to do what I like, which is to help people. I have also applied for pharmacy at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Gqeberha but I am still waiting for their response,\u201d she said, adding both fields were in the \u201cScience Faculty I love so much\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
