The Look at God Music Awards (LAGMA), aimed at igniting creative spirit, craft appreciation and community involvement, will take place for the second year running on Saturday 18 February, at Strand Town Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The annual music awards, a brainchild of Yandisa Magagana, are spearheaded by a local clothing brand, Look At God (LAG). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards are aimed at developing quality music locally while preventing crime in the community by keeping the youth active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Magagana added that the awards also seek to develop, encourage and inspire artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards were initiated to spread a message of hope and inspire young people to be positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe love of music has influenced us to start these awards, focus areas, for now, are the musicians residing in the Helderberg areas such as Grabouw, Sir Lowrys Pass, Strand and Gordon\u2019s Bay and Macassar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the awards, the public nominates their favourite artists. Voting lines are then open to select the best artist in each category. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat is special? It is always the theme and definition of success (an experience). This year we want to give artists and the audience the best experience. Also, this year we have added 15 more categories which means we will have 32 awards as compared to last year,\u201d said Magagana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the awards played an important role in the local art industry by giving artists confidence and value. \u201cArtists now feel appreciated and honoured,\u201d he exclaimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Magagana said he was so looking forward to the fashion. \u201cI want to see how people will define success on the red carpet through their fashion sense. Then the performances, we have hit performances this year and with some vibrant dancers as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Magagana added that patrons could expect to be \u201centertained and amazed\u201d by the work they have put behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described the programme for the day as \u201cdiverse\u201d with soul, hip hop, kwaito, amapiano and poetry artists ready to dazzle the crowd. There will also be artists coming from areas such as Khayelitsha and Belhar. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
