Two people have been shot and killed by unknown men at the corner of New Eisleben and Sheffield Roads in Philippi earlier today (Wednesday 5 July).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Information received from the scene suggests suspects came from a white Toyota Avanza and went straight to the victim\u2019s car and shot them several times before they fled. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The motive behind the shooting is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the victims died inside the car sitting in the driver\u2019s seat, while the other, who was in the passenger\u2019s seat, was gunned down a few metres away from the vehicle. He tried to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An eyewitness, who is anonymous for security reasons, said he saw two men who were carrying firearms shooting at the victim\u2019s car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEverything happened so fast. I heard gunshots. There were more than 20 gunshots that were fired. I ran for cover and left my stuff there on the pavement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the victim\u2019s car, a Toyota Conquest, hit the Avanza from behind and that the suspects\u2019 car collided with an oncoming minibus taxi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When City Vision<\/em> arrived on the scene, all three vehicles involved were still there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The suspects\u2019 vehicle was squeezed between the victims\u2019 car and the minibus taxi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n There were more than 15 bullet holes visible in the victims\u2019 vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Capt Granville Meyer, the Philippi-East police station spokesperson, said a double-murder case has been opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n No arrests have yet been made and the case is still under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
