A 22-year-old woman
\nfrom Settlers, in Langa, was arrested earlier today (6 July) after she
\nallegedly poured a child with hot water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is alleged the
\nwoman poured the water on the five-year-old to deter her from playing at the
\ngate into her house. The incident occurred on Saturday 24 June. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Provincial police
\nspokesperson Capt FC van Wyk said a case of assault with the intent to do
\ngrievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened against the woman. \u201cThe case was
\ntransferred to Bishop Lavis Family Violence, Child Protection a Sexual Offences
\nUnit (FCS) for further investigation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luyolo
\nLengesi, the co-founder of #LangaForMen, condemned the incident. He described
\nthe perpetrator\u2019s actions as \u201cbarbaric\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
#LangaForMen is a
\nnon governmental organisation that educates young men about gender-based
\nviolence (GBV) and gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lengesi said the
\nperpetrator did not deserve to be in the community. \u201cImagine throwing hot
\nwater on a five-year-old child because the child is playing at your gate. There
\nare many ways in which she could have stopped the child,\u201d said Lengesi,
\nadding that the child was left with permanent scars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As an organisation, Lengesi said they were keen
\nto assist the victim\u2019s family. \u201cWe will support them in court. We will
\nensure that the suspect does not get bail. Also, if the family needs
\ncounselling, we will take them to the social workers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
