Informal traders from Lwandle and surrounding areas converged at Nomzamo Community Hall on Saturday 9 September in what was termed a Youth Investment Indaba to empower young people about business and investment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event, which was organised by Youth Business Chain (YBC), was the first of its kind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
YBC is a non governmental organisation that links the informal traders and young entrepreneurs with the funders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The traders described the event as an eye opener. They praised YBC for taking a step towards educating and equipping them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phumza Rhalityana, who owns a sewing business, said she is looking forward to establishing herself in the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMost of the time I\u2019m doing traditional clothes. But I also do other clothes. It depends on the customer on what he or she wants. I make money but I misuse it. I don\u2019t have a business account and now I\u2019ve learnt that I must separate my personal money from the business money,\u201d said Rhalityana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said now she is aware of some places where she can get funds in order to develop their businesses. She stated that young business owners need help but they don\u2019t know where to go. Rhalatyana said she wishes that other similar businesses can come on board to empower them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
YBC chair Michael Nayalo described the workshop as part of bringing the services to the people. He said they are trying to assist and equip the young businesses. He said many people, especially youth, are in the dark and don\u2019t know where to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe noticed that there is a missing link between informal traders and funders. Our people are saving their money in the bank but when they want help or funds the banks don\u2019t assist them citing that they don\u2019t qualify. Now, we are telling them that there are better ways for them to save their money. There are companies that are registered under Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) which can invest in them without going to the bank. Also there are other organisations like Seda, NYDA that can assist them with funds,\u201d said Nayala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said it is time for young people to rise above and not to wait for the government to provide for them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward 86 councillor Xolani Diniso described the workshop as a great opportunity for young business owners. He described these kinds of workshops as they come once in life time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
