In celebration of World Aids Day Hlengisa Primary School in Nyanga held a special programme followed by a clean-up operation in the area around the school. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nSchool in Nyanga, Cape Town celebrated World Aids Day in style on Friday 1 December when it held a short programme before learners started their clean-up of
\nthe area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy
\nprincipal Mzwandile Gaji described the event as \u201ca special day\u201d on which to commemorate
\nthose who died of Aids-related illnesses and promote
\npublic awareness of the disease.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is our first-ever event we held at school,\u201d he pointed out, \u201cbut we intend to do
\nthis annually. Our aim is to encourage
\nhealthy living in a clean environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gaji urged
\ncommunities to support people living with the virus, because gone are the days
\nwhen people living with it were discriminated against.
\nHe also said it is everyone\u2019s business to
\nensure the community is safe and clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and
\nSecurity JP Smith, who was also present at the
\nevent, urged learners to stop doing wrong. He said
\nthe City wishes to see the reduction of crime
\nin all areas. He encouraged people to report
\nany suspicious-looking incidents or
\noccurrences to the nearest police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
