Explaining why they chose to hold the event in Lusaka, Dumisani Qwebe said they noticed that within the Nyanga police precinct, Lusaka had more GBV and domestic violence cases reported to the station. He said they felt a need to visit the area.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scores of residents converged at Lusaka Community Hall in Lusaka, Nyanga on Saturday 2 December, in a special service against gender-based violence (GBV) and World Aids Day celebration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organised by the Nyanga Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum (SCPF) and local organisations including Nyanga police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyanga SCPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe described GBV and HIV as major challenges to any community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged the communities to unite against the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign. We want to encourage people to speak out against GBV and domestic violence. As SCPF, we are saying enough is enough,\u201d said Qwebe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining why they chose to hold the event in Lusaka, Qwebe said they noticed that within the Nyanga police precinct, Lusaka had more GBV and domestic violence cases reported to the station. He said they felt a need to visit the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qwebe stated that it was everyone\u2019s business to report any suspicious activity to the police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyanga Police Station commander Brig Lindiwe Dyantyi described the service as a way of commemorating people who died because of HIV-related illness and their colleagues who died in the line of duty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said they saw a need for spiritual intervention to comfort those who lost their loved ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe believe everything is possible with God. We say let\u2019s come together under one roof and pray for all the bad things that are happening in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s talk to God and pray for GBV and all the killings that are happening,\u201d said Dyantyi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She cited moral decay as the contributing factor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resident Ziyanda Mayekiso said she wished they could have a prayer service every month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of things that are happening here. People need God. They need to change,\u201d she said, adding that substance abuse is another challenge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
