\n12 Fezeka High School learner Ongeziwe Kamlana will be buried on Saturday 16
\nMarch and her service will be held at her home in
\nthe Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The
\n17-year-old girl went missing
\non Saturday 17 February and her body was discovered in a burnt bungalow at Palomino Street in Jagtershof, Kuils
\nRiver on Thursday 7 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On
\nWednesday 13 March her school held a memorial service for her. The deceased\u2019s family said they were too distressed to speak to the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speakers
\ndescribed Ongeziwe\u2019s death as tragic, a very promising
\nyoung life cut short, and portrayed her as humble and
\ngenerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her class teacher Mpumelelo Mantshintshana said the
\nschool was
\ndevastated by her death. \u201cOngeziwe was a
\nbrilliant child. She was a quiet person who
\nliked to smile all the time.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He
\nurged her classmates to honour her by ensuring they got good results at the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ongeziwe\u2019s
\nbest friend and classmate Lilitha Njana said she was
\nheartbroken by her friend\u2019s death. The two had been inseparable since
\nGrade 8, Lilitha saying Ongeziwe was like a sister to
\nher, sharing
\neverything. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOngeziwe\u2019s death has changed those of us who were in her class,\u201d Lilitha said. \u201cNow we are united and
\nsupport one another. Her spirit has done something to us. If we had issues as a class
\nbefore, all this has changed since we got the news of
\nOngeziwe\u2019s death.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ward
\n39 councillor Thembinkosi Mjuza urged the community to take responsibility and
\nlook after their children. He described Gugulethu as a war zone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mjuza
\nsaid he believed
\nthat if the City installed cameras in the townships crime will decrease. \u201cThe government needs to provide the
\nnecessary infrastructure. If there are cameras
\nup in Gugulethu we will be able to see the perpetrators. Also,
\nas parents we have a responsibility to look after our children, and they must listen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Provincial
\npolice spokesperson Capt FC van Wyk said an inquest docket was registered on
\nSunday 18 February and the charge was later changed to
\nmurder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe
\nbody of a deceased person was burnt beyond
\nrecognition at a bungalow on premises in Palamino
\nStreet, Jagtershof in Kuils River. DNA testing confirmed the body found as being that of the
\nmissing 17-year-old Gugulethu girl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He
\nsaid a man, aged 28, was arrested on
\nSunday 3 March and appeared in the Blue
\nDowns Magistrates\u2019
\nCourt on Tuesday 5 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe suspect was released on R1 000
\nbail, and his
\nnext court appearance will be on Wednesday 17 April. He is out on bail on
\ncondition that he does not leave the area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
