In an attempt to support needy families in different communities, NY 91 Over 30\u2019s Soccer Social League, in collaboration with the Father Figure organisation from Gugulethu, launched a diaper drive initiative and urged the community to donate diapers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative was launched at Nobantu Primary School on Sunday 31 March. At least 105 diapers were collected during the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The league is made up of soccer players, mostly working class and business owners over the age of 30. They strive to improve living conditions for needy people in society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
League spokesperson Tumelo Pudumo described the initiative as part of commemorating the life of Bobby Gonca, who was gunned down at NY3 early this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated the league strives to make a tangible difference in the community. \u201cIn collaboration with Father Figure, we launched this Diaper Drive to extend a lifeline to families in need within our community. We also honour Bobby by uplifting those around us,\u201d said Pudumo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said their objective is to provide essential support and comfort to families in Gugulethu, Grassy Park and Joe Slovo in Milnerton who are facing hardships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRegardless of size, shape or brand, every donated diaper will contribute to ensuring that every child in these communities feels cherished and cared for,\u201d he stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Father Figure Nkosinathi Mahlanyana emphasised the significance of the partnership with the league on the Diaper Drive. He said it marked the beginning of a series of impactful interventions. He said the tragic loss of Bobby to gun violence deeply moved them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Father Figure is a non-profit organisation (NPO) that encourages fathers to be responsible and support their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs we reel from the pain of Bobby\u2019s untimely passing, we are reminded of the urgent need to support one another, especially during times of adversity.
