Nyanga community members have
\nmixed feelings about a ministerial imbizo that
\nwas led by Minister of Police Bheki Cele to
\nengage Nyanga community on crime and safety concerns on Wednesday 15 May at
\nLinge Primary School in the area. Some of them see it as an electoral ploy, while
\nothers see it as a good move. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luleka Mtyhido from Zwelitsha believes the presence of Cele will make a difference and scare the
\ncriminals. She said Nyanga was like a
\nwar zone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople are dying like flies
\nhere. Criminals have no respect for the community. Nyanga is always in the
\nmedia for the wrong reason.\u201d Mtyhido
\nurged Cele to deploy more law enforcement officers to the Cape Flats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Makwande Tinto from Phase 1 in
\nLusaka questioned Cele\u2019s visit, describing it as a waste of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Cele has been going around
\nconducting imbizos and he hasn\u2019t heard him come back with any
\nfeedback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNyanga has been known as the
\nmurder capital for so long. It is well known that the crime rate in Nyanga is
\nhigh. We need action, not promises.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said Cele was on campaign trail
\nfor his party in style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said he is concerned by the
\nescalation of crime under Nyanga police precinct. Cele said he was surprised by the number of shebeens and
\ntaverns in the precinct cited that they have a negative impact in the
\nescalating of crime in the area. He stated
\nthat he doesn\u2019t have a problem selling alcohol as long as it\u2019s legal. Cele highlighted Browns Farm as one of the hotspot areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
