The Philippi based organisation, Rootz, launched the Salties Soccer Clinic Tournament for young children at Philippi Village on Friday 31 May. The tournament was organised for children between the ages of seven to 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rootz is a non-profit organisation which was established in 2022. It specialises in educating and empowering young people, particularly in the disadvantaged areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe new tournament will enable young footballers to compete for trophies, medals and prizes every month. The Rootz has partnered with other local NPOs and a SectorEducation and Training Authority (SETA). We have a daily programme which caters for up to 40 children. We open 08:00 to 16:00 weekdays and on demand on weekends. The centre provides a safe and stimulating aftercare facility including holiday programmes to support working parents with younger children,\u201d said Elzmari Strydom, Rootz founder. She said the curriculum focuses on language and literacy development, arts, crafts, physical activity, motor skills development and social and emotional growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFootball helps keep the children fit and teaches important social skills and valuable lessons to help them navigate through life including developing a consistent daily routine. It also assists them on learning to take responsibility and good sportsmanship,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coach Sibusiso Mzobe said they also assist young children with their homework, assignments and provide internet for them after school. Part of their programme is to keep the children safe and away from the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
