Members of Urban Rural Development of Capacity Building Project (URDCBP) from Langa were exhilarated after a donation of kitchen equipment to the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday 21 June, Ward 51 councillor Lwazi Phakade delivered the donation funded by his budget to the organisation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
URDCBP is a non-profit organisation that is working closely with the vulnerable and people who have chronic illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the items that were donated were industrial pots, sets of kitchen knives, graters, potato mashers, dish cloths, chopping boards, two flat tables, a gas stove, a gas tank etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
URDCBP project director Pamela Nteyi described the councillor\u2019s contribution as a relief to the organisation. She said this will make a huge difference to the organisation. She described the organisation as striving and depending on the donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn most cases we are relying on the funds from the donors. The contribution that the councillor made will make the difference,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation feeds around 300 people from the area every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMost of our beneficiaries are unemployed and have chronic illness. They are referred by local clinics, social workers and other individuals are just coming in and we don\u2019t turn anyone back,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said they saw a need to establish a soup kitchen particularly for ill people to be able to eat before taking their treatments. She said they cook for five days during the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Phakade said he saw a need to assist the organisation as they do a great job to feed the community. He described his contribution as part of giving back to the community. He said the aim is to sustain the food security in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe organisation plays a pivotal role in the community. We need more such organisations in our community. The issue of food security in our community is a challenge on its own,\u201d said Phakade and vowed to also support other soup kitchens in his ward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
