On Sunday 7 July at 19:30, officers attached to the Anti Economical, Extortion Task Team and Provincial Counterfeit Goods Task Team flooded the streets of Browns Farm, notorious for violent and firearm-related crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers were driving in Dyushu Street when they spotted several males standing at the back of a white Toyota Quantum. The officers approached the group tactically but the suspects fled into different directions. Officers traced a suspect who fled into a nearby house and another who disappeared over the roof of the house to the back of a flat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They arrested the first suspect with a fully loaded revolver found. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
.<\/span> A woman was found with a 9 mm pistol next to her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n During an extended search inside the house, the officers found a third suspect, a man with a 9 mm pistol without a serial number. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The suspect who fled over the roof was also tracked and found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with an extra magazine in his pocket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Officers expanded the search, armed with information that led them to a premises in Lotus, Gugulethu where several R1 and AK47 rounds of ammunition were discovered and seized. The officers also found a gas rifle at nearby premises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Suspects aged between 23 and 36 were arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n .<\/span> In a separate incident, police who formed part of an integrated operation deployed in Khayelitsha to combat the ongoing gang violence were busy with stop and search operations in Site C on Friday 5 July, when they heard the sound of gunshots. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The officers responded and found a man who had sustained gunshot wounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A woman, who also sustained injuries, was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officers followed up on the information at their disposal and apprehended a 32-year-old man who fitted the description of the suspect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n They searched him and confiscated a licensed 9 mm pistol with ammunition and drugs. They detained the man for murder, attempted murder and possession of drugs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n . <\/span>In Gugulethu, police were busy with crime combating activities on Friday 5 July when they noticed the driver of a VW Polo driving recklessly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The officers instructed the driver to stop, but he sped off with police in pursuit. The driver suddenly stopped the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the police officers who took action. The suspects fled and were apprehended. In the process police recovered three firearms with ammunition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n They detained two men, aged 31 and 42, and a woman (20) on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and
