Excitement was evident on the faces of learners at Lwazi Primary
\nSchool in Gugulethu when they received new school shoes from Transnet on
\nWednesday 31 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least 50 shoes were donated by the state entity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
School principal Maxwell Mdini praised Transnet for demonstrating
\nUbuntu. He said the shoes meant a lot to the children and their parents.
\n\u201cSome of the learners came to school with broken shoes or sneakers. I did
\nnot care because I wanted them to come to school,\u201d said Mdini. He added
\nthat most learners come to disadvantaged communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mdini believes the shoes will boost the learners\u2019 confidence and
\nimprove their academic performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Awelani Radzilani, a Transnet Engineering Executive Manager,
\ndescribed the initiative as part Mandela month celebrations. \u201cAs Transnet,
\neven if our offices are not here, but we are part of the community. This event
\nis part of social development,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parent Ntombizodidi Nqata praised Transnet. She said the shoes
\nwill make a difference as she struggled to buy them for her child. \u201cI\u2019m
\nunemployed. I survive through my children\u2019s grant. I\u2019m happy now that my child
\nhas new shoes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
