A cyclist (61) was airlifted to hospital following a crash involving a taxi on Victoria Road in Camps Bay this morning (Monday, 6 April).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camps Bay police Station Commander Captain Liaan Janse van Rensburg said a group of 20 cyclists were cycling from Camps Bay to Hout Bay while the taxi was travelling from Hout Bay towards Camps Bay at about 08:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The taxi overtook a vehicle, but he wasn\u2019t driving recklessly. One of the cyclists got a fright and fell in front of the taxi and the taxi hit him. The cyclist has a fractured leg and was airlifted to hospital,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Janse van Rensburg, a case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated. No arrests have yet been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muneeb Hendricks, Camps Bay Improvement District manager<\/a>, said the district is saddened by the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hendricks urged both cyclists and road users to “use the road respectfully”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That is a coastal road, so drivers must be aware that there are going to be cyclists along that road and they must drive responsibly. Cyclists also need to abide by the rules of the road, stay in the yellow lane and not ride next to each other.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
