CAPE TOWN<\/strong>– School learners across the Western Cape can participate in the Cape Town Cycle Tour free of charge, with 500 entries available for the 42km race on Sunday 8 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, in partnership with the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust, will allocate the entries on a first-come, first-served basis to learners aged 11 to 18, or those turning 11 this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie<\/a>, said the initiative aims to expand access to sport and create opportunities for young people across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is your chance to be part of something big, to challenge<\/a> yourself and represent your school with pride in one of the world’s most iconic cycling races,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mackenzie, who will also participate in this year’s race, has called on principals and teachers to identify promising young cyclists and ensure their entries are submitted on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents<\/a> and schools must submit learner entries directly to the department by emailing Amy.Sauls@westerncape.gov.za by Wednesday 25 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first 500 entries received will be allocated the free spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
