The Ward 73 councillor in Nyanga, Sandile Martin, has urged the community to report any suspicious activity happening in the area to the police. The remarks came after the residents of Zwelitsha discovered hospital laundry dumped on the corner of Zwelitsha and Linge streets on Wednesday 4 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes worn clothes of patients and theatre medical staff. Martin described the incident as shocking, the first he had come across in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It looks as if the clothes were stolen somewhere and dumped here. It seems to have all the signs of robbery attached to it. Criminals are tarnishing the image of our community. Nyanga has been in the media for wrong reasons and the criminals want to make it worse.”

He urged police not to leave any stone unturned. He urged the community to stand up against criminal activities. Samantha Lee-Jacobs<\/a>, communications officer of the Klipfontein<\/a> Mitchells Plain Substructure of the Department of Health and Wellness, said the department had expressed its gratitude to vigilant community members for alerting it to the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile our teams could not locate the linen we can, from the footage provided, confirm this did not contain any medical waste. Due to the nature of services offered at the local health centre we can confirm these gowns did not originate from the Nyanga Community Day Centre.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
