A leader of the Nyanga Community Policing Forum<\/a> (CPF) is appealing to the community to work together with police to curb crime in the area. The remarks came after two
people were shot and killed in Lusaka, Nyanga on Monday 8 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nyanga CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe said there is a lot that needs to be done in Nyanga in terms of fighting crime. He stated that dealing with crime is
not only for the police, but the community at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is sad to see two old people with gun wounds. The deceased are siblings and both were older than 50,” said Qwebe, adding that the death demonstrates the seriousness of the crime in the community.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said Nyanga police are investigating two counts of murder following a shooting incident on Monday (8 December) at
19:47 at a premises in Mtsha Street, Lusaka, Phase 2, Nyanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said two males aged 57 and 59 were shot and fatally wounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAccording to reports Nyanga<\/a> officers attended a shooting incident at the mentioned address and on their arrival, they found the two brothers deceased in a Wendy house on the premises. The victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,\u201d explained Van Wyk. He said the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qwebe vowed to mobilise the community to speak with one voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We know that people are preparing to go on holiday, but as community stakeholders, we need to get together and come up with a plan to fight crime in our vicinity. Murder and gender-based violence are some of the cases that are most frequently reported at Nyanga police station,” he said. “People however are scared to come forward.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
