A new South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) Philippi Zonal leadership was elected at a two-day conference, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November, held at Mzamomhle Primary School hall at Brown’s Farm, Philippi last weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference’s purpose was to resurrect the long-standing civic organisation, which had become dysfunctional and hamstrung by much in-fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Newly elected Sanco Philippi Zonal chair Anele Madondile<\/a> described a new leader as being as a servant of the people. He said their priority is to restore the hope and the dignity of the community. Sanco Philippi Zonal comprised 19 branches with elected structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Madondile said the organisation’s aim is to ensure service delivery is coming to the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have the challenge of crime in Philippi<\/a>, which has a negative impact on the City\u2019s providing of service delivery in our communities. Sometimes the City employees are getting robbed when they are coming to work in our areas, which makes it difficult for the services to reach our people. As Sanco members have an obligation to intervene on that and ensure we root out the criminal element from our areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elaborating on the resolutions of the conference, he said it is to fight crime and revive the Philippi Development Forum, to coordinate any development that takes place in the area. Highlighting some of the challenges that is encountering the civic organisation in most cases Madondile cited the few individuals within the organisation who use it for their interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He vowed that they will strictly monitor any action within the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSanco is a community organisation. It was established to service the needs of the community. But we\u2019ve seen some leaders once they have a problem with their political organisations they use Sanco members to fight their political battles.\u201d He added the organisation’s mandate is clear; to fight for the betterment of the community, working with ward councillors to this end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other new leaders of SANCO Philippi Zonal are Felicia Mafumana (deputy chair), Nomnde Maxhegwana (secretary), Thelela Nkqayi (deputy secretary), Bukela Nelisane (treasurer) and Sibusiso Dalasile (organiser).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
