Gugulethu police are investigating a double murder case following a shooting incident at Moonlight informal settlement in KTC<\/a> on Sunday 10 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police, a 28-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were ambushed at Mjodo Street around 20:30.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provincial police spokesperson Col Andre Traut said the circumstances surrounding their killing are under investigation. Their bodies were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds, he added. The motive for the incident is unknown and the suspects are yet to be arrested.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being attacked described the incident as terrible.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“According to the information that we received from one of the people who were with the deceased, they heard a knock on the door,” he explained. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The perpetrator allegedly called one of the deceased by name. When the door opened several shots were fired without a single word. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leader said the gunman then ran away. The deceased are well-known in the community, he explained. “We are still puzzled by the incident as we know the deceased were people who like a good time. We never heard of them being involved in bad things. We’re hoping the officers will investigate the main cause of the shooting,” she concluded.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate incident on Friday 8 August, two people were gunned down at the corner of Ligwa and Zambezi streets at Extension 6 in Mfuleni.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Malcolm Pojie said Mfuleni<\/a> officers registered two counts of murder after two men aged 26 and 19 were shot at about 13:25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Officers were dispatched to the scene where they discovered the bodies of the deceased who had succumbed to gunshot wounds to the upper body. Both were declared deceased by medical personnel on the scene. The motive for the attack is not known yet and forms part of continued investigation surrounding the circumstances of the murder,” said Pojie.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said more boots have been deployed on the ground to quell the gun violence in the area. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These deployments include specialised units such as the Anti-Gang unit and other integrated forces from the police and the City of Cape Town,” he concluded\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A community leader told City Vision the area has become a “danger zone” and urged the community to be vigilant.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What is shocking is that in most cases people who are involved in these incidents are young people. It is getting worse daily. We can’t even walk freely on the street. These incidents are terrifying in us,” he said. Some of the culprits are known in the community, but residents are scared to speak out.
