The truth must be told, local schools are gradually improving, whether it’s academics, music or sport. But, people turn a blind eye to certain things and focus on the negative. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve seen some Khayelitsha high schools, including COSAT<\/a> and Joe Slovo featuring among the top schools in the 2024 matric results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Njongo Primary School is well known for choral music. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last weekend, Nomzamo High School in Lwandle became the national champions of the DSTV Schools Netball Challenge, which was held at Boksburg in Gauteng. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This demonstrates that there is a lot of raw talent in our communities, it just needs to be polished. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead of wasting our energy focusing on the negative things that demoralise our spirits, let’s focus on the positive side.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is lacking in our areas are good leaders, people who lead by an example. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gone are the days where in each street or village there was a particular person who outshone everyone for having a good heart. Someone who was admired by everyone for his or her behavior.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are living in toxic communities where criminals control almost everything. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our children look at them as their rolemodels.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They all aspire to drive nice vehicles like some of these criminals.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we cannot run away from the fact that there are dedicated people who are trying their best to change our communities for better. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People who devoted their lives nurturing and protecting young people from all the social ills that we are encountering. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need to give the credit where it’s due. We need to acknowledge those teachers and local coaches who are inspiring and supporting our children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
