Life will never be the same for the residents of Level Two informal settlement in Town Two after they officially received communal taps on Monday 14 July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least eight taps are installed in the area. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Level Two is one of the areas that were illegally established during Covid-19 <\/a>pandemic in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resident Nolusindiso Tom said they are delighted with the taps. She said the taps will make their lives easy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said they have been struggling to get water as most of them had illegal connections. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had to make alternative plans to get water because we were tired of always asking for water from the neighbouring areas. At least we see the movement. Our ward councillor is not sleeping on duty,” she said, adding that they also have chemical toilets.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom stated that they now need the installation of the electricity. She said they are worried by the escalating crime in the area. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“People are getting robbed when they go to work in the morning. At least if the City can install a light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights so we can see at night,” said Tom.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ward 97 councillor Mthwalo Mkutswana <\/a>said the aim is to provide basic services and improve people’s lives. He said it is the start of more things to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We already installed at least 300 chemical toilets. On Monday 14 July, we handed over eight communal taps. The City is planning to add more communal taps. It is waiting for this coming financial year, which starts next month,” he said, adding that they are also planning to install electricity but didn’t specify when.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
