In the wake of the devastating Easter Weekend fires that left nearly 200 people homeless and destroyed 68 homes, Langa residents faced an unimaginable crisis.
Recognising the urgent need for assistance, Octotel, the Western Cape’s leading provider of fibre connectivity, and RSAWEB, one of its major internet service providers and best-rated ISP, have united to extend a lifeline to those affected.

Langa Ward Councillor, Lwazi Pakade, described the incidents as unfortunate and called upon local organisations and businesses to lend a helping hand.
Responding to this call, Octotel and RSAWEB‘s collaboration aims to support those affected within the community during this challenging time.
“As a company deeply rooted in all the communities in which we operate across the Western Cape, we couldn’t stand by as Langa residents faced such serious hardships. Our responsibility was to step up and offer support in any way we could, given the many homes that were destroyed and many families were left without shelter and basic necessities,” said Carly Haydricks, CSR Team Lead at Octotel.
The combined efforts saw 10 to 15 boxes of shoes, bags, bedding, and winter clothing, donated by staff from both companies, will offer comfort and warmth to those who have lost everything.
Additionally, both companies contributed R10 000 worth of groceries, including essentials such as maize, rice, non-perishables, beans, and oil, to ensure that the families have access to food items during this difficult period.
According to RSAWEB Community Partnership & Sponsorship Coordinator, Irené van Schalkwyk, the ISP believes in the power of connection – and that extends beyond just providing internet services.
