At least 133 people from Khunkqu section in Taiwan informal settlement, Site C, who were flood victims during the heavy rains early this month, received blankets, food parcels and black plastic sheets donated by For Africa organisation on Wednesday 30 July. The event was held at Fulani Community Hall in the area.
For Africa is an African humanitarian organisation focusing on food security, healthcare, education and emergency response across the continent.

One of the beneficiaries, Viwe Martins, said they are exhilarated. He praised the ward councillor for being with them during the hard time.

“We are happy to see that there are organisations that are still remembering us. Ja, we are back to our shacks, but life will never be the same again. Because some of our electric appliances and furniture were damaged during the floods. But we thank them for everything they gave us,” said Martins.

Ward 87 councillor Khayalethu Kama said the aim is to give them back their dignity.

“We know it is not enough, but we believe whatever they receive today will make a difference. Last week Wednesday 23 July the national Department of Human Settlements donated building material to the flood victims. Today, also For Africa came on board. We are very pleased with their contribution,” said Kama.
However, he stated that the donation was a short-term intervention.
