The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) Western Cape leadership visited members of the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) region as part of its roadshow on Wednesday 19 August. Held at the Thusong Centre in Khayelitsha, the roadshow started in the first week of August and was expected to be completed in the second week of September.
Santaco WC spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana described the event as the first of its kind since the new leadership assumed office in March. He said the organisation’s objective was an introspective one, to see where it can improve, the main objective being to work towards uniting all the regions.

SWOT analysis drives introspection
“We are doing a SWOT analysis. We are looking at our challenges and our strengths as an association and finding ways to improve. We are visiting all our regions. We started at Two Oceans, then we moved to Mitchells Plain. After that we went to Greater Cape Town, then to the Boland region. And today we are here in the Codeta region. In the first week of September we will be in the Cata [Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association] region, and our last destination is the Northern region.”
Route invasion and infighting among key challenges
He stated that the main challenges taxi associations, which fall under Santaco’s authority, were experiencing were route invasion, infighting and struggling to get permits from government. He stressed that they are willing to build a healthy relationship with government.
Tumana said that Santaco intended to build a formidable and united association.
