All three high schools in Lwandle and Nomzamo showed improvement in their 2021 matric results although they fell short on their own targets.
Simanyene Secondary School obtained 77,7% from 56,3% in 2020, while Nomzamo High School reached 66, 4% from 57,7% the previous year and Khanyolwethu Secondary School scooped 61,6% increasing its pass rate from 56,8%.
Monwabisi Matshoba, Simanyene’s school principal, said he was happy with the improvement and quality of the results.
“We are happy with the results though our set target was 80%. We came close but the quality of the results is what is really motivating to us as the school,” he said.
“The school had 71 bachelor passes (improved from 2020’s 33), 59 diplomas (64 in 2020) and 51 certificates (37 in 2020). We also recorded increases in Accounting from 61,1 in the previous year to 82,4%; Life Science improved from 43,8% – 81,1% and Physics 37,5 – 79,4,” said Matshoba.
Chris Mgubanto, Nomzamo school principal, said they were “happy” after analysing the results.
“We had 143 learners that wrote and 99 of those passed. We achieved 62 bachelor passes, 27 diplomas and 10 certificates which was an improvement from the previous year,” said Mgubanto.
He said they were “proud” with the bachelor passes, as some learners did not even believe they will make it.
“As the school we worked very hard, and we achieved good quality passes. All we want as the school is to give our learners the key to their future, and what they do with it is entirely with them now,” said Mgubanto.
The school fell short of it’s 70% target and said it was “hurt” by that there were a lot to draw positives from in the results.
Siphokazi Tshikini, Khanyolwethu acting principal, said the school achieved five bachelor passes, 63 diplomas and 29 certificates.
“We have seen an improvement and we are happy as compared to the previous year. To be honest we had thought things would be a disaster but we managed to pull through,” she said.
Tshikini believes parental involvement and support was needed for their learners to do well.
The school did well in Accounting and Computer Application Technology (CAT) where they registered 100%, and 99% in English.
