  • A shooting in KTC, Gugulethu left one man dead and another injured on Saturday.
  • The suspects remain at large, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
  • Residents are calling for increased safety measures in the area.

Gugulethu officers registered a murder and an attempted murder case for further investigation following a shooting incident at Mzamka Street in KTC, on Saturday 26 October.

The officers reported that a man had been shot and fatally wounded and the other victim shot and injured during the incident.

Provincial police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana said the incident occurred at about 13:57.

“According to reports, members were on duty when they attended to a shooting complaint at the mentioned address,” she related, “and on their arrival they found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the body. This victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel, while the other was transported to a nearby hospital.”

Manyana added that the unknown suspects fled the scene and had yet to be arrested.

The resident of the premises where the shooting occurred, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of harassment, said the deceased and other victim were in the yard when the unknown men stormed in and opened fire on them.

“I don’t want to speculate about it, but it is scary,” she said. “It seems they were followed or the culprits were looking for them. Because people there were saying the deceased and victim had just arrived when they were attacked.”

The resident appealed to the government to deploy more boots on the ground.

“We are not safe here. The government must deploy more officers in our areas. KTC is becoming a crime-zone area. I’ve lost count of the number of shooting incidents that have occurred in this area this past year.”
