Lwandle police are investigating double murder and attempted murder cases following the shooting that occurred at Lwandle hostel on Wednesday 14 August.
Lwandle Police Station spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama said four people were sitting outside the hostel when unknown men opened fire on them.
The motive is unknown according to him.
“A 38-year-old man was shot in the head and died on the scene. While the other two victims, aged 38 and 25 years were injured during the incident. The older man was shot in the mouth, the back and right arm, while the 25-year-old was shot in the right arm. The fourth man managed to escape and hid behind his vehicle,” said Gama, adding that when officers searched the vehicle the officers discovered a firearm with missing parts (grip and slide) in a leather sling bag.
Gama stated the older victim had succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday 19 August.
He said the officers found six cartridges and a bullet jacket on the scene. It was taken to a forensic laboratory for further investigation.
Gama said no arrest has been made yet.
Ward 86 councillor Xolani Diniso said they are distraught by the incident.
He urged the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible. “We are still traumatised by the incident. We were hoping that both the victims would survive. But, we are still hoping that justice will prevail for the deceased families and the victim as well,” said Diniso.
He described Lwandle as becoming dangerous as people are getting killed monthly. He urged anyone with any information regarding the shooting to come forward.
Diniso said he doesn’t want to speculate what motivated the shooting as he is not well informed about the incident.
“I wish people can resolve their problems in peace without fighting. Lets love each other and stop bickering over small things,” said Diniso.
