A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals said they suspect that the incident is extortion-related. He alleged that some of the deceased were well known in the community for their wrongdoings.

“According to the information I received, it seems they were sitting in the house when they were attacked. We are not sure where the attackers were coming from. But without a doubt, their killings were extortion-related.”

Community members were traumatised by the incident, he said.
