Leaders of the Khayelitsha and Nyanga Community Policing Forums (CPFs) welcomed the appointment of the new provincial police commissioner, Maj Gen Sizakhele Dyantyi, on Wednesday 29 July. They described him as a dedicated professional in the law enforcement sector. Dyantyi has been in the sector for more than 30 years.

Khayelitsha CPF: We want stability

Khayelitsha CPF spokesperson, Mzolisi Malungisa, said they welcomed Dyantyi and trusted that he would bring change to Khayelitsha as a whole. He said all they want is stability in Khayelitsha.

“As long as he brings change to Khayelitsha, we welcome him. Khayelitsha is becoming one of the hotspots now. Our main challenge is illegal firearms are in the wrong hands. We want him to minimise crime like murders and other serious crimes like rape, hijacking, gender-based violence and so on,” said Malungisa.

He stated that they are willing to work with Dyantyi.

Nyanga CPF confident in Dyantyi’s leadership

Nyanga CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe, described Dyantyi as a disciplined officer and a man of his word. He said now that there is a new kid on the block, change is certain.

“I know Dyantyi personally. I’ve worked with him in Nyanga before. He was a cluster commander. He knows what to do. We were patrolling with him. He keeps his promises. I believe, under his leadership there will be changes in the Western Cape, in the townships in particular,” said Qwebe.

He cited extortion and murders as major problems in the Nyanga precinct. He urged Dyantyi to ensure that police vans are maintained and to fill all the vacancies at the station.

Fix the resources — Nyanga CPF

“Sometimes the police vehicles take time to come back when they are taken for maintenance, which leaves the station vulnerable because of a shortage of resources. We want Dyantyi to bring back all the officers who are working in the provincial task team to fill their positions at the station. All these challenges are affecting stability at the station,” said Qwebe.
